Playboy's Hugh Hefner, Who Helped Define American Pop Culture for Six Decades,
Will Accept a Lifetime Achievement Award from LA Press Club on Nov. 17

Hugh Hefner, founder and editor-in-chief of Playboy, will have the tables turned as he is the subject of a Playboy-style interview at the Los Angeles Press Club's 4th Annual National Entertainment Awards dinner Nov. 17 at the historic Biltmore Bowl.  NBC4 LA anchor Robert Kovacik will interview Mr. Hefner in the incisive and entertaining style pioneered by Playboy for over 50 years.  Comedian and civil rights icon, Dick Gregory will make a special appearance.

It takes place Thursday, Nov. 17 at the Biltmore Bowl in Los Angeles as part of the Los Angeles Press Club’s Award Dinner for the finalists in the Club’s 4th Annual National Entertainment Awards competition that attracted hundreds of entries from all over the U.S.

The LA Press Club Board cited Hefner’s “huge, unmatched footprint on popular culture and his unflinching support of First Amendment rights for the average citizen as well as the press.”  The live interview follows Hefner’s acceptance of a Lifetime Achievement Award in entertainment journalism.

Locally, Hefner helped save the landmark Hollywood Sign--twice, is a major contributor to USC’s Film School and has executive produced the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl for 34 years.

Making a special appearance at the dinner gala will be comedian and civil rights icon Dick Gregory who Hefner booked at the Chicago Playboy Club in 1961 replacing a white comic.  This was a barrier breaking event which changed the landscape of standup comedy in America forever.
